Is There Such a Thing as Having Too Much Imagination?
Closed

Children have vivid imaginations, play pretend, daydream about being super heroes, etc.....

We are living in a time when clinging to the imagination of our children is more important than ever....

The very innocence that allows them to lose themselves in a world of fantasy. A world where you can be the superhero one minute and a princess the next....

A world where you are safe and free to explore and learn through pretend play. A world where imaginations are encouraged and fostered instead of deemed “dangerously overactive.”....

But how do you react when your little one tells you they have a secret and when asking what the secret is....they tell you they see ghosts..that their angel dad is standing right next to you....

I was like uhm uhm uhm and then I said hello son.....and she just giggled.....

Reading through the other comments remimds of the old folks afrikaans tale that children are supposed to have a "helm" and be able to still see what we cannot anymore. But i don't put much stock in it

If the child's father died isn't this perhaps a coping mechanism? I could imagine a child doesn't really grasp that gone forever concept as we do. Maybe it helps him to act out like he's still around?

Everything we use is built on imagination. Somebody imagined how people lived in a box and we now have television. Somebody imagined what it would be like to fly and we are using Boeing's. Imagination is good for us

I don't think so and sometimes it's not to be taken lightly. When my grandson was still a baby he used to' baby talk' and laugh with someone in the house...growing up to a year and plus he would tell me "Ma, the man is here" and I would always ask him where is the man, is he sitting or standing, etc... I believed him. The last time he saw the man was when they moved back to CT from Jhb.
When he was older he looked through the photo album and pointed out 'the man' it was his grandfather whom he never saw because he died on the parent's wedding day and before he was born.......strange but true.

As long as it's not about scary things and doesn't disconnect one from the real world it's ok.
