Silly Law Saturday ~ Or Maybe Not So Silly

Residents of Chicago are required to keep fire buckets in their front hall.

What do you think of this law?

I think it is a good law. Well, now it would be a fire extinguisher, but I do think it should be a requirement for all homes across the world. I'd rather be safe than sorry, I guess.

Thank you for stopping by.

Please stay healthy & safe!

Have a blessed day!

It’s a law that was passed after the Great Chicago fire. You have to realize that fire extinguishers were still exclusively for the wealthy back then and not very effective either.. Or didn’t work at all. . Most neighborhoods were poor back then. Most could not afford a fire extinguisher so It was either use the bucket or wait for the fire department and neighbors to help. None were good options. Reply

This is quite surprising as I just learned that fire extinguishers were invented about 200 years so interesting that Chicago opted for a fire bucket law instead after the big Chicago fire some 50 years later in 1871. Reply

That law must be from the time Chicago had the big fire. Reply
