What are your thoughts about a retirement home for senior dogs?

I had never heard of this concept until yesterday but what a great idea to offer a special home for dogs 7 years old and up to enjoy their golden years!

Marty's Place in Upper Freehold, New Jersey gives abandoned older dogs who end up in a shelter a new "leash" on life as older dogs are much less likely to be adopted than are younger dogs.

Amenities at this retirement home include generous living quarters, medical and dental care, regular exercise, and activities geared toward the dogs capabilities and limitations. They also have plenty of sofas for just hanging out and even a swimming pool.

The article also mentioned The Grey Muzzle Organization and the Senior Dog Project for those are interested in helping senior dogs in your area.

This is a great service. It's hard getting people to adopt older dogs. Reply

It's a great idea! Definitely much more humane than putting them down. Reply

The town I live in has a shelter that matches up senior citizens with senior dogs and cats. That way they both get to spend the last years of their life together. Reply

This is so great, they have probably saved a lot of dogs that would have been put to sleep if they were not adopted. I love hearing good news stories like this, thanks for sharing. Reply

I have read and seen posts on Facebook about these retirement places for unwanted and sickly senior dogs. They sound like wonderful places. It is a lot of work and money to take care of an older, sickly dog so I admire these people greatly. Reply

Its cute. But I am much more worried about the human population of seniors in this environment. If the economy or the virus don’t get you.. time will . It’s never easy being old for dog or human alike. Reply

I never heard of the concept but I think it's a good idea for unwanted dogs. The dogs would be in a place where they will taken care of in their golden years. Reply
